Hmm. I am intrigued by the fact that they went to Canada to get married. Makes me wonder if it had something to do with marriage laws at the time. Like for instance, were they too young to get married in the place they lived? Did they intend to move to Canada and then changed their minds.

You definitely should write the story of your uncle. That sort of in-depth personality profile is golden and is the sort of thing you can't find in dry documents.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is something to the family secrets, something that might not be as shocking to you today as it would have been back then. Like, to me and my siblings, a child out of wedlock is not a big deal. But in the 1890s, it would certainly have been a huge scandal!
