What a revelation, especially at that age. You were absolutely right, and most people in that situation are never able to see the right path.

Such courage in carrying your own banner, and even if you didn't speak up as much for others as you wish you had (a common problem for conflict avoiders--you are not alone!), you started down that path and put yourself in a position to grow into the person who could do so. :)
